The Drury Lane Theater presents the Christmas classic ‘White Christmas’ through January 03, 2016. The Drury Lane Theater is located just west of Chicago in Oakbrook Terrace. The theater is near I-88 and Route 83, approximately 19 miles west of downtown Chicago. They have ample free parking in the garage structure next to the theater. This is an absolutely beautiful and elegant venue. The 970-seat theater provides great views from every seat.
I visited the Drury Lane to enjoy Irving Berlin’s White Christmas Musical. This holiday romantic-comedy classic is about the journey of two Army friends that became Broadway stage stars who follow a sister singing act to a Vermont Inn. To their surprise, the Inn is owned by their retired Army General. To save the almost bankrupt Inn, the two Army friends and the sister act team up to put on a show. This musical is sure to make you sing along to the all-time favorite Christmas song.
I’ve seen the movie numerous times and I must admit that there is nothing better than seeing the stage musical. The singing, the choreography, the costumes, and the stage design are best experienced in person. Although the play is set in circa 1944 through 1954, the feel-good story is timeless. The message of the play is as relevant today as it was at that time.
The Drury Lane also offers an excellent dining option before or after the show. The recently opened Lucille restaurant is located in the slightly elevated area in the center of the large lobby just across from the main doors to the theater. This is truly a first class restaurant. Their menu and wine list are second to none. Equally important, the service is exceptional!
We arrived at dinner at 7pm (we had tickets to the 8:30pm show). Although the restaurant is open to the public, the majority of the guests were enjoying their pre-show meal. I ordered their Prime Rib, and my guest ordered the Scallops. Both the prime rib and scallops were prepared perfectly and compared favorably to the top restaurants around Chicago.
If you’ve never been to the Drury Lane, ‘White Christmas’ is a good reason to experience it for the first time. If you’re familiar with the theater, you already know that this is a terrific venue that just got better with the Lucille restaurant. Surprise your loved ones with the Drury Lane experience!
