Sono Wood Fired Pizzeria is located in Lincoln Park at 1582 N. Clybourn Ave. in Chicago. I had the honor to experience Sono Wood Fired Pizzeria and was guided through my eating and drinking extravaganza by the remarkable and brilliant, John McLean, Chef Owner of Good Eats Restaurant Group LLC which includes Sono Wood Fired Pizzeria as just one of his numerous, top notch eating and drinking establishments.
I started my Sono indulgence with a couple of items from the Antipasti (Appetizer) menu. The first was the mozzarella, a hand-made “to order” mozzarella with wood-fired crostini, this savory and decadent appetizer is a must try on the menu and the perfect way to begin a meal. The second Antipasti I experienced was the lamb meatballs in a roasted garlic tomato sauce; these meatballs were so moist and flavorful!
My next course was the Bruschette; the delicious options offered made it difficult to choose just one. Fortunately, there is a bruschette flight which offers patrons the ability to pick five to share. I chose the fig, cipollini, burrata, roasted pepper and funghi. All bruschette were delicious, so I highly recommend the bruschette flight to experience different tastes and flavors.
I was then able to try the nightly specials menu which includes small plates, large plates, special pizza and featured wine. I chose from the large plates, the Crispy Chicken Thighs, Rapini, crisp potatoes and lemon sauce. This was an outstanding dish that I thoroughly enjoyed!
The pizza is Sono Wood Fired Pizzeria’s pride and joy and as it should be….it is phenomenal! Any pizza at Sono is the best of the best! My biggest challenge was choosing which pizza to try; with Chef John’s guidance I was able to experience their top selling pizza, soppressata. This pizza consisted of spicy salume, wood-fired onions, fior di latte and basil. This pizza was incredible, amazing and all the adjectives I could use to describe this delicious pizza. My recommendation is try all the pizzas at Sono Wood Fired Pizzeria, they are equally tasty!
Just when I thought I could not take another bite, along comes the dessert menu and this is a menu which must be experienced! Again, another challenging decision to make as the choices were great. I chose the Chocolate Truffle Cake, warm semi-sweet chocolate cake, sea salt caramel gelato and caramel sauce. I also tried the Zeppoles ‘little doughnuts,’ dusted in cinnamon sugar and chocolate hazelnut sauce. Both of these desserts were out of this world satisfying and a salute to the sweet tooth!
